Pro tip: I found a camera shop in Portland that still sells 35mm film for $5 a roll, but their fridge is set way too cold.

Some say cold storage keeps film fresh for years, but I think freezing it can make the emulsion brittle and cause cracks, so what's the right temp for long-term film storage at home?

Remember that time I left a roll of film in my glove box during a heat wave? The colors came out all weird and washed out, like a faded postcard. Makes you wonder if the fridge at that shop is better than my car's oven, but maybe they've gone too far the other way. I just keep mine in a desk drawer now and hope for the best.

Found a cool dry spot in my basement after my own heat wave disaster, @ivanl18.

Yeah, I totally feel you on that. I once put a roll of film in my old mini fridge in the garage and forgot about it for like a year. When I finally developed it, the negatives were all stiff and had these little cracks along the edges. Never again.
