My barber said my film scans looked like a 'real place' and it stuck with me

I was getting a haircut yesterday and showed him a photo from my trip to Portland. He said 'That looks like a real place, not just a picture.' He meant the grain and the light felt like being there. I always chased perfect sharpness, but his comment made me think about texture and mood instead. Anyone else have a moment that changed what they look for in a shot?

So you're letting a barber's offhand comment change your whole approach? That's a shaky way to make art. Chasing a "mood" or "texture" just sounds like an excuse for soft, messy photos. Sharpness and clarity show skill and intent. That "real place" feeling is just nostalgia for a worse way of taking pictures.

Wait, your barber knows what film scans are?
