Client asked me to dig a post hole next to a gas line last Thursday

I told him no way and walked off the job, but he got real mad about it has anyone else run into homeowners trying to talk you into dangerous stuff like that?

Yeah, absolutely. That's a hard no from anyone who's been doing this long enough to know better. You made the right call, no job is worth that kind of risk.

Buddy of mine ignored that advice once and spent three weeks in the hospital.

Man, @shane_perry29 nailed it. I had a cousin who thought he could save time by skipping the safety check on a piece of machinery, just one little shortcut. Ended up with a crushed hand that needed two surgeries and months of rehab. He still can't grip a coffee mug right. People see it as a hassle until they're staring at a hospital bill they can't pay or a body part that won't work the same way ever again. And that whole "it's quicker" logic falls apart when you're laid up for weeks.
