Walked through the Garment District in LA and got totally overwhelmed

I visited the LA Garment District for the first time last Saturday and it was nuts. Every store front is packed with fabric, zippers, and trim but nobody talks about how hard it is to find ethical suppliers there. I asked three different vendors where their denim comes from and got blank stares or lies. How do you guys even start figuring out if the materials are sourced decently when everyone is just pushing the cheapest stuff?

Just got my mind flipped on this honestly. I used to walk into those shops and get all judgy about the ethics, like I was better than everyone for asking questions. But then I started talking to some of the stall owners and realized they're barely keeping their own heads above water, paying rent on those tiny spaces and dealing with suppliers who don't give them a choice. How is a guy selling zippers for 50 cents supposed to vet a whole supply chain when he's just trying to feed his family? The whole "ethical" label is a luxury for people with money to burn, not a real option for the folks keeping the fashion industry moving. It's easy to point fingers from behind a laptop, but actually being there in person changed my whole view on what's realistic.

The whole "ethical sourcing" thing is mostly a buzzword that small vendors can't afford to play along with. Those same cheap fabrics keep the whole industry running and let people actually make a living instead of shutting down. You walked into a budget district and expected fair trade standards, that's like going to a dollar store and asking about organic snacks.
