Just figured out I've been cutting fabric wrong for 4 years lol
I'm working on a simple A-line skirt for my niece's birthday and something felt off with the drape. My sewing buddy came over and watched me lay out the pattern, then she just goes 'you know you're supposed to cut on the fold right' and I froze like a deer in headlights. For 4 years I've been cutting each piece separately and sewing seams down the center instead of using the fold line. No wonder my skirts always looked wonky in the back. Has anyone else had a facepalm moment with something that basic in sewing?

Folks just don't read the directions" - my dad's a contractor too, he says that about everything. I messed up cutting a tarp once for months because I was reading the measurements wrong. It happens.

84 inches is 84 inches though, no way around that.

My dad used a 48 inch tarp for a 36 inch window frame for three weeks before he realized it wasn't folding right. People get so caught up in the number they forget to double check the actual size. It's like buying a 2x4 that's really 1.5x3.5 and then getting mad at the lumber yard. At the end of the day, if the tarp covers what you need it to cover, who cares if the math is slightly off.
