Found a weird trick for getting pleats to lay flat without ironing

I was working on a chiffon skirt last month and the pleats kept popping up no matter how much I steamed them. Tried spraying a light mist of water mixed with a tiny drop of fabric softener and let it hang overnight. The pleats actually held their shape way better and didn't look stiff or ruined. Anyone else got a go-to method for tricky fabrics like this?

My friend Sarah had a similar issue with a pleated linen dress for a wedding. She tried everything, even laying heavy books on the pleats overnight but they still looked all poofy. Finally she just hung it in the bathroom while she took a hot shower and let the steam do its thing. The pleats actually settled down pretty good after that. I told her about your fabric softener trick and she said she might try that next time for something more stubborn like chiffon. She said the steam method worked but it took like three showers worth of steam to get it right. Fabric softener spray sounds way quicker honestly.
