Finally got the pocket design right on my utility skirt

I mean, for like three years I've been trying to make a skirt with good pockets that don't bulge out. Last week, I cut a new pattern piece for a side seam pocket bag that's angled forward, about 4 inches deep. I sewed it into a test skirt from some old canvas and, idk, it just worked. My phone and keys sit flat now instead of pulling the whole thing sideways. Maybe it's just me but I was so happy I did a little dance in my sewing room. Has anyone else found a trick for hidden pockets that actually hold stuff?

Ugh, but pockets ruin the line of a skirt. The whole point is a clean silhouette. Just carry a small bag.

Honestly, that 4 inch deep pocket sounds perfect. Tbh I get what kaimiller is saying about the clean line, but I'd take a useful pocket over a tiny bag any day.

Exactly this. I've had a denim skirt with 3 inch pockets before and I swear I could barely fit a chapstick without it poking out. So 4 inches would actually be usable for my phone which is like 5.5 inches. Do you find that deeper pockets make the fabric stick out weirdly when you sit down though?
