My grandma's sourdough starter advice finally made sense after 3 tries

My grandma always said to feed the starter at the same time every day or it would get grumpy and fail. I thought she was being dramatic but I kept getting flat lifeless bread. Last month I set a daily alarm at 8am sharp and now my starter doubles in size like clockwork. Has anyone else had a family member give advice that sounded silly but turned out to be the secret?

My dad swore you had to talk to plants for them to grow well. Tried it with my tomato plants last summer and ended up getting more tomatoes than I knew what to do with.

My mom did the same thing with her orchids (she has about 15 of them now). She'd read them the newspaper every morning and they bloomed like crazy. I thought it was nuts until I tried it with my sad little basil plant on the windowsill. That thing went from three leaves to a full bush in two months.
