My aunt's cookie swap disaster finally made me write down measurements

Last Christmas my aunt brought her famous ginger snaps to the family swap but they came out like hockey pucks. She's been making them for 40 years using just a handful of this and a pinch of that. After everyone broke a tooth I pulled her aside and we spent 2 hours measuring every single ingredient while she remade the batch. Now I keep a notebook in my kitchen for any recipe where someone says 'add flour until it feels right.' Has anyone else had to force a relative to write down their secret family recipe?

Oh man, I used to be totally against measuring things lmao. I thought it was cheating or took the soul out of cooking. But then I tried to recreate my grandma's chili and it was a disaster three times in a row. Now I'm all about writing stuff down lol.

Read that part about the chili and had to laugh @dakotaknight. Three times is rough but at least you finally gave in. Those grandma recipes are no joke.
