That old folk art painting my grandma left me is starting to crack after 30 years in a closet
Pulled out a painted wooden duck decoy my great aunt made in the 1940s last week and the paint is flaking off bad. Anyone know a good way to preserve old folk art without ruining the original look?

Have you checked if it's temperature or humidity damage from being stored that long? Sometimes sealing the back side first can stop the cracking from spreading further.
Did the paint crack in a web pattern or just peel off in flakes? That would tell you if it's the wood expanding or just old dried out paint giving up.
