My great-grandmother's cameo brooch snapped in half when I dropped it last week. I'm torn between trying to restore it or leaving it broken as part of its story.

Isn't it funny how we treat broken things like they have secrets to keep? A crack in a teacup or a snapped brooch suddenly tells a better story than a perfect one ever could. It's like we walk around all day with these invisible fractures in our own lives and pretend they're not there, but when something physical breaks we give it a whole personality. Maybe your cameo is just being honest about what it's been through, like everything else that's lived a long time.

Just glue it back together and tell people she was a sword swallower. The story is better and you can still wear it. My aunt did that with a cracked teacup, said it was from a bar fight. Nobody questions it after that.
