Finally got my great-grandma's 'worthless' cameo appraised
Turns out it's a genuine 1890s piece from Naples, worth about $1,200! Anyone have a similar story about a family piece you underestimated?

My family's version of this is a truly hideous lamp. Pretty sure it's just ugly, not valuable.

Oh dang, that's wild! My aunt had this ugly vase we all hated, turns out it was some art deco thing. She sold it and bought a new couch lol.

Ha! That's always the way, isn't it? You spend years making fun of something and then it turns out to be worth a small fortune. Guess your aunt had the last laugh though, a whole new couch for a piece of decor everyone roasted! Maybe I should start looking at my grandma's weird knick-knacks with fresh eyes, just in case there's a sofa hiding in there somewhere.
