That tip about using a candle to lube stubborn zippers changed my life

My buddy Mike, a general contractor from Cleveland, told me to rub a plain wax candle on a stuck zipper instead of buying spray. I thought he was full of it until my 20 year old Carhartt jacket zipper locked up last week. One swipe of a $1 birthday candle and it slid like new. Anyone else got weird household items that work better than the real tool?

Man, isn't that always how it goes with life hacks. The cheap fix ends up working better than the fancy product because someone actually tested it on something real. It's like how a butter knife opens a paint can better than the actual opener sometimes.

I gotta push back on the "better than the fancy product" part though. That butter knife trick works exactly ONCE before you've got a bent knife and a lid that's chewed up so bad it won't seal right ever again. Meanwhile that little metal opener from the hardware store costs like three bucks and lasts forever. People remember the one time the hack worked and ignore the ten times it failed or messed something up.
