That time at the hardware store in Tulsa changed how I use painter's tape

I always used blue painter's tape for everything, even hanging posters (don't judge). Then last month I was at Lowe's in Tulsa grabbing supplies for a quote, and the old guy in the paint aisle saw my cart. He told me I was wasting money on the expensive stuff for non-paint jobs, and pointed me to the cheap beige masking tape for $3 a roll. I figured I'd try it, and honestly? Works just as good for holding things down or labeling stuff in my truck. Has anyone else noticed the expensive tape is mostly hype?

The whole premium tape thing is just another example of companies convincing people they need the expensive version for everything. Same thing happens with trash bags, light bulbs, even wiper blades the "premium" ones last maybe a month longer but cost triple. People get brand loyal and forget the cheap stuff does the job 90 percent of the time.

Do you think that's true for most things or just the ones where the cheap version actually holds up? I used to be all about buying the premium stuff but hearing you spell it out makes me rethink a lot of my purchases.
