Just read that 40% of facial cleansers actually strip the skin's barrier way too much. Found it in a dermatology journal my friend left at my place.

My pharmacy aisle is basically a wall of harsh soaps now. Feels like everything is overcorrecting for problems we didn't have.

Exactly, it's like they're trying to solve for the most extreme case. Everything is antibacterial, has exfoliating beads, or strips all oils away. My skin gets so dry and tight from these "deep cleaning" formulas. They took a few people who wanted very strong soap and made it the only option. Now I have to hunt for the one basic, gentle bar left on the bottom shelf.

Oh I felt this in my soul lol. I literally started buying the goat milk soap from the natural foods store because I got so tired of my hands feeling like sandpaper after washing. Even some of the "gentle" drugstore brands have sneaky surfactants that still wreck my skin. The real hack I found is looking for soap with like 5 ingredients max, usually something with olive oil or shea butter listed first. If you can find a castile soap bar those are usually pretty safe too. I hide mine behind the fancy scented ones so nobody steals my last gentle bar lol.
