A client in my chair yesterday told me something that made me rethink my whole approach
She came in for a routine facial, but her skin was way more sensitive than usual. I asked if she'd changed anything, and she said, 'Yeah, I started using that new vitamin C serum everyone talks about, but twice a day like the bottle said.' I explained that can be too much for some people. She looked at me and said, 'But the instructions are right there, so I thought that was the rule.' It hit me that we need to be clearer about tailoring routines, not just handing out product advice. How do you guys balance giving general guidance with making sure clients know their skin is unique?

It's like cooking from a recipe. The box might say bake for 30 minutes, but your oven runs hot, so you check it early. Instructions are a starting point, not a law. My experience is people really want permission to trust their own judgment over the label.

Fair point, but here's what I wonder - how do you know when your judgment is reliable versus just being impatient or cheap? Some people trust their gut and end up with a blown engine or a ruined dinner. Where's the line between smart adaptation and willful ignorance?

Totally! My first car's manual said premium gas, but regular worked fine for years.
