Tbh, my old boss insisted on static routes for everything in our Phoenix office. After a router swap caused a 3-hour outage, I finally understood why dynamic protocols exist.
He said it was simpler to manage, but that outage cost us about $15k in lost productivity. Anyone else have a 'simpler is better' story that blew up?

Remember trying to explain the static route table to the new guy. I had it printed out, and the paper was so long it rolled across the floor like a red carpet. The joke was on me when I fat-fingered one gateway address during an update. Simpler to manage, they said. Simpler to cause a full site meltdown, I learned.
