Core switch died at 3 AM and I learned about backup configs the hard way
My main Cisco switch at the office just froze up last Tuesday around 3 AM. Turns out I had zero backup of the running config because I always assumed it was saved. Had to rebuild 48 VLANs from memory. Anyone else keep a physical copy of their configs now after something like this?

Started keeping a physical notebook by the rack after my 4AM rebuild from scratch (yeah, I feel your pain). Used to think USB backups were overkill, but now I have one plugged in full time with the running config saved after every change. That panic of staring at a blank switch with nothing but your own memory is something else, man. Printouts are good too, but I like having the actual commands written out step by step so I don't have to remember the syntax under pressure.

Read somewhere that company lost everything after a power surge. Do you use USB backups?
