Cabling guy told me to use zip ties instead of velcro, network crapped out 3 hours later
My vendor's lead tech insisted zip ties were fine for a 48-port rack in the Denver office, said velcro was overkill. By lunch the next day we had intermittent drops on half the ports because he cinched everything down so tight it crushed the Cat6 pairs. Anybody else run into a veteran installer who swears by old methods that just don't work anymore?

Right, so have I ever messed up cables with zip ties? Oh yeah, I once tightened a bundle so hard it looked like a wasp waist on a Cat6 patch panel. @faith_price7 is totally right about those plastic separators getting squished flat, I did the same thing on a small office build last year and spent a whole Saturday redoing 12 jacks because the signal was all mushy. You'd think after 15 years I'd learn, but nope, I still catch myself going "just a little tighter" and then I hear the crunch. Velcro might look messy but at least it doesn't turn your network into a haunted house where packets disappear.

Crushed them with those zip ties. Same thing happened to me on a server migration last year. Old school guys think tighter is better but they don't realize Cat6 has those little plastic separators that get squished flat. Had to reterminate 24 jacks because the pairs were all smashed together.
