My old foreman said to always check the governor rope tension first on a door lockout call
Got a call for a stuck car at a bank on Main Street. The doors wouldn't open and close right. I spent twenty minutes checking the lock rollers and track before I remembered his advice. Sure enough, the governor rope was way too loose, causing the safety to trip. Anyone else run into this, or do you start somewhere else?

Twenty minutes on the track before checking the rope... that's rough. I would have been kicking myself for forgetting the basics. Your old foreman knew what he was talking about.

I always check the rope first now.

Used to think checking gear was just busy work until a frayed carabiner gave way on a simple climb. That sound, man. Now my first five minutes on site is just running my hands over every line and checking every knot. Feels slow but it's faster than explaining a trip to the ER.
