Magnet safety tip from a Otis rep in Chicago

I was swapping out a brake coil on a 330A in a 12-story office building downtown and the Otis rep walked by. He said check your magnet gaps with a feeler gauge every time, even if it looks fine. I had a .008 difference on one side that would have burned the coil out in a month. Anyone else run into tight gaps on these older units?

.008 so close it's basically a participation trophy.

Yeah @drew791 that's rough... .008 is literally a rounding error away from winning, and that has to sting so bad. I feel for them honestly, putting in all that work and coming up just short by a hair like that. It's not really a participation trophy situation, more like getting your hand on the trophy and then someone yanks it away at the last second. I've had close calls like that and it sticks with you way longer than a blowout loss does. Hope they take some pride in how close they got, because that's still an insane performance.
