I keep seeing guys skip the full inspection on the governor rope after a brake job
Twice this month, I've been called to fix a stuck governor on a 10-year-old Otis Gen2 where the mechanic just did the brakes and left. The rope can get a flat spot from the new brake shoe pressure if it's not checked and reset. Had one fail a test in a Boston office building because of it. How many of you make that governor rope check a set step after every brake adjustment?

Yeah, that flat spot on the rope is a real thing. You gotta slack the rope off, spin the sheave a few times, and then re-tension it to the right spec after the brake work. Skipping that is just asking for a call back when it binds up.
