Found a reliable method for tensioning governor ropes on older units.
Was troubleshooting a false trigger on a governor and noticed the ropes were slack. Applied even tension with a torque wrench according to the manual, and it worked perfectly. What's your go-to approach for this?

Ever use the manual and still over-tighten them like me?

You ever notice how some manuals have torque specs but no real way to measure it at home? You're just guessing what 25 foot-pounds feels like on a bike stem. Maybe the instructions skip the part where you need to stop when it first meets resistance, not when it stops turning.

Oh man, my buddy did that exact thing last month. He was putting his bars back on, had the manual right there, and still cranked the stem bolt so hard it made a terrible sound. He told me he was just going for "good and tight" like @elliots23 said. Ended up stripping the threads right out of the steerer tube. Total nightmare. Now he's paranoid and barely tightens anything, which is also bad. There's gotta be a better middle ground than guessing.
