Swapped my cheap soldering iron for a Hakko FX-888D last month
I finally broke down and bought a Hakko FX-888D after using a $15 iron from Amazon for like 3 years. The difference in heat recovery alone is insane for doing THT joints on old boards. First project with it was fixing a dead power supply from a 90s JVC receiver and it took me half the time. Anyone else notice a huge jump going from budget gear to something mid-tier?

Still using my $20 Yihua with no complaints honestly.

Yeah but your Yihua probably hasn't burned you through three pairs of safety glasses like my cheap one did. The Hakko doesn't shoot molten solder in random directions when I breathe on it wrong, which is nice. I kept my old iron plugged in for a week as backup and honestly forgot it existed. Now I just stare at my desk like "where did all this time go.
