My uncle swore by using a hairdryer on a cold laptop screen, and I just tried it on a MacBook Air
He said it would fix the dark lines from a loose connection, and after 2 minutes on low heat, the display actually cleared up. Has anyone else had a weird trick work when the proper fix seemed too expensive?

Wait, did you hold the hairdryer super close to the screen or keep it moving from a distance? I'm worried about melting something or cooking the glue inside.

Hold the hairdryer super close? @grant_ross27, are you trying to make a modern art sculpture out of your laptop? You gotta keep it moving from a good distance, like a foot away at least. The whole point is gentle, even heat to soften the glue, not to bake the thing like a potato. Seriously, if you hold it still and close, you will absolutely cook the insides and probably warp the plastic.

Yeah I actually used to be the guy who thought you had to hold it right up against the screen to really get the heat in there. Like I figured the closer the better, right? Then I did it on an old laptop I didn't care about and the plastic bezel started to get all wavy and soft after like 30 seconds. That's when I realized you gotta treat it more like you're warming up a frozen pizza than trying to melt steel. Keep it moving a solid foot away and just let the heat work its way in slowly. You'll feel the glue soften after a minute or so, the screen will just kind of give.
