My new Hakko FX-888D station started acting weird after just two weeks
I was trying to replace a surface mount cap on a Samsung TV board yesterday and the temp started jumping around like crazy, from 700 down to 400 and back up. I had to stop the whole job and dig out my old backup iron, which totally threw off my flow. Has anyone else had a brand new station fail this fast, or did I just get a bad unit?

My buddy Mike had his FX-888D do the same thing right out of the box. The display would show 700 degrees, but the tip felt cold, like it wasn't even close. He ended up sending it back for a replacement, and the new one has been solid for over a year now. It seems like there can be a bad batch with the temp sensor or something.

Yo, that's crazy! My buddy Tom got a Hakko FX-888D a couple years back and the same thing happened to him. He'd set it to 650, the display would say 650, but the solder wouldn't even melt on the tip. He ended up swapping the heating element and it fixed it, but it was a pain to figure out at first. Glad Mike's replacement worked out, sounds like a known QC issue for sure.

Totally had a buddy with the same exact issue on his Hakko. The readout was way off from what the iron was actually doing. A replacement unit fixed it right up, seems like some just slip through QC.
