Had a weird power supply failure on a 2015 iMac yesterday
Was swapping the hard drive for a client when I heard a pop and saw a tiny puff of smoke from the PSU area. The board looked fine, no bulging caps, but the main fuse on the power supply board was blown. I replaced the fuse and it blew again instantly, so there's a short somewhere deeper in the unit. Anyone have a good method for tracking down a short on these thin, multi-layer boards without a schematic?

My old house had a circuit that would trip if you ran the microwave and toaster at the same time. It was the kitchen and dining room on one 15 amp breaker, which is just not enough for modern stuff. I ended up having an electrician split that circuit into two separate ones. Cost a bit but it stopped the random power cuts during breakfast.
