Had a customer tell me my pipe bends looked like a pretzel gone wrong

I was doing a service upgrade in an old house in Denver last month and thought my conduit runs looked pretty clean. This older guy watching me said my 90s were tighter than a corkscrew and it threw his whole day off. Anyone else ever get roasted by a homeowner who clearly knew more than you expected?

Makes you wonder how many old-timers are just watching us work and keeping a mental tally of every mistake. Had a retired commercial guy watch me pull wire through an LB once and he just sighed when I took too long feeding it through. He told me I was fighting the wire instead of working with it. Stuck with me though. Those old guys have forgotten more about this trade than most of us will ever learn.

Had a 30 year lineman tell me once that the difference between a good electrician and a great one is knowing when to stop fighting the material and start listening to it. Those quiet moments before work is where they do most of their learning, just standing there with their hands in their pockets watching the problem before touching it.
