Swapped out my old shower head for a 1.5 GPM model and actually like it better

I finally replaced the old 2.5 GPM shower head in my 1950s bungalow near Whyte Ave with a 1.5 GPM one from Home Depot. The water pressure feels just as good but my water bill dropped by about 12 bucks last month. Anyone else notice a real difference after making the switch?

I saw something on the city's water conservation page about how Edmonton homes from the 50s usually had those big 2.5 GPM heads. They basically waste water because the old pipes can't always keep up anyway. That $12 drop you saw is pretty solid, I read a study that said most people save between 8 and 15 bucks a month depending on their hot water heater. The real trick is if you have a tankless heater, you'll notice the savings even more since you're not heating as much water. So yeah, you're not imagining things, that 1.5 GPM is doing real work for your wallet.

The tankless heater thing is a good point. You feel it more with gas bills than water bills honestly. That 1.5 GPM really adds up over a month when you're not paying to heat water that just goes down the drain. I switched mine a few years back and my gas bill dropped like 15 percent in winter alone. Plus the shower pressure feels fine to me, doesn't even seem weaker. So yeah, those little heads are a no-brainer for anyone with older plumbing.
