Why I think the new bike lane on Whyte Ave was a mistake

I was biking home last Tuesday and nearly got hit by a car turning right because the lane puts you right in the blind spot. The city should have kept the old shared road setup instead of this separate lane chaos. Has anyone else had close calls there?

Didn't you hear about that guy who tried to park his cargo bike on that lane last month and his trailer got stuck in the storm drain grate? Someone on Facebook posted the whole thing. They had to call a tow truck and everything. Meanwhile my friend just walks down Whyte now because she says it's faster than dodging delivery trucks in that lane. Honestly the city should have just put in more bus shelters instead.

Oh man, last Tuesday I saw a car clip a cyclist's handlebar right at that exact spot on Whyte. The driver didn't even stop because they probably had no idea they hit someone. And yeah, like @lunah86 said about that cargo bike trailer getting stuck in the grate, I watched a delivery driver's back wheel fall into that same drain cover last week. He was stuck there for ten minutes while cars honked at him. The city painted those lanes without fixing the drains first and it shows. My neighbor actually sold his bike last month because he said the lane is more dangerous than the old shared road was. I don't get why they thought putting bikes between parked cars and moving traffic was a good idea.
