Warning: the old Edmonton Chat site is a total security risk now

I used to log into the old edmontonchat.com forum all the time back in 2018, but I checked it last week and it's full of redirects and pop-up ads. The change happened about six months ago when the domain expired and got bought by some sketchy company. Now I only use the verified Reddit community or the Discord server for actual local talk. Has anyone else had their browser flagged after visiting the old site?

Yeah, that redirect mess is a classic sign of a domain grab. My antivirus threw a fit last time I accidentally clicked an old bookmark for it. The new owners just pack it with malware-laden ads to make quick cash. It's a real shame, that forum had some decent local history threads that are just gone now.

Wow, I never saw it that way before. I always figured those redirects were just broken links from sloppy site moves. Hearing it's a deliberate cash grab with malware changes things. It explains why the new pages feel so aggressive and broken on purpose. That's actually really messed up, they're trashing good info just to make a quick buck. Makes me way more careful about old bookmarks now.
