The time my phone died right before a meetup at the Muttart Conservatory
I was supposed to meet my friend Sarah at the Muttart at 3 PM, but my battery hit zero just as I got off the bus downtown. I had to ask three different people for directions and ended up being 25 minutes late. Has anyone else had a plan fall apart because of a dead phone in Edmonton?

My old car battery gave out in the West Edmonton Mall parking lot one February, right when I was supposed to pick up my nephew. I had to walk back into the mall to find a payphone, which felt like a trip back to 1998. The whole thing made me realize how much we just expect our tech to work all the time. It's a weird feeling when it doesn't, like you've lost a basic skill.

Man, that payphone hunt sounds brutal, especially in a February parking lot. It reminds me of when my phone died at the airport last year and I realized I had zero clue about my gate number or flight time without it. I just stood there like an idiot, completely stuck until I found an info screen. It's crazy how quickly we forget the old ways of doing things when the new way breaks down.
