Talked to a guy at the Jasper Ave library about the old chat rooms

He was there using the computers and mentioned how the old 'Edmonton Chat' forum from the early 2000s had a ton of local history posts that just vanished when the site went down. Said he tried finding archives for weeks with no luck. It hit different because I realized we're probably losing a lot of current local talk too if we're not careful about where we post. Anyone know a good spot to back up threads or is it all just gonna disappear one day?

My cousin found a whole thread from our old high school forum on some sketchy archive site... but half the images were broken. It's all just rotting out there.

That's the worst. Grabbed a browser extension that pulls images from archive sites, saved a ton of stuff before it vanished.

My backup drive from 2012 is basically a digital graveyard. I've got folders full of "image not found" icons that were once hilarious memes. It feels like we're all just building our own private museums of broken links. The internet's memory is shorter than my attention span during a boring meeting.
