Shoutout to the guy at the Edmonton Public Library who changed my mind about local news
Honestly, I was just grabbing a coffee at the Remedy Cafe downtown last week and this older guy at the next table saw me scrolling my phone and said, 'You know, you won't find what's really happening here on those big sites.' He told me to check out the community board in the library lobby instead, and I actually found a notice for a block party in my own neighborhood I had no idea about. Ngl, how do you guys actually keep up with what's going on in the city without just using social media?

Check the local paper's actual website for events.

Our local paper's site is a total mess though, it hasn't been updated since last fall. I tried to check their calendar for the spring festival dates and it still showed last year's pumpkin patch event. You have to click through about five broken links just to find anything. Honestly, I've had better luck just searching on Facebook for local groups posting about what's happening this weekend.

Good call by @shah.shane, the paper's site is the right move. I tried just searching online for local stuff last week and got nothing but old listings and spam. Went straight to our town paper's calendar page and found a bunch of events happening that weekend. Their site had the correct times and locations, which a lot of those big event aggregator sites mess up. Saved me a ton of hassle trying to figure out what was actually going on.
