Reconsidered my stance on winter tires after that cold snap in early January

I used to think all-seasons were fine for Edmonton winters, lol. But after sliding through that intersection on 137 Ave near the Northgate LRT station, a buddy at work told me I was being cheap with my safety. He showed me the difference in stopping distance on ice, and now I run Blizzaks from November to March. Anyone else had a close call that made them switch?

I slid through an intersection on my all seasons back in 2018 and honestly it wasnt that bad. I think people blow winter tires way out of proportion. My buddy runs Blizzaks and he still ended up in a ditch last February on the Anthony Henday. Plus you gotta think about the cost, thats like 1200 bucks for a set of winters plus another set of rims and then storing them half the year. I just drive slower when its icy and keep my distance. My moms been driving on the same set of all seasons for 5 years in Calgary and shes never had a problem.
