Northside vs Southside in winter driving is no contest

I've lived in Edmonton for 12 years now and I swear the snow removal on the south side is way better than north of the river. Last winter during that big dump in February, my buddy on the north side said his street didn't get plowed for 5 days. Meanwhile my avenue in the south was cleared within 24 hours both times. I know it depends on your specific neighborhood but I think the city just prioritizes certain areas. Has anyone else noticed this pattern or am I imagining things?

Read a report a while back that said the city has more heavy equipment stored south of the river so they can get to those main roads faster. It makes sense when you think about it, a lot of the big hospitals and city depots are on that side. Plus the south end has newer neighborhoods with wider streets, which probably makes plowing easier. You notice it most during the first big storm of the year when everything falls behind. Have you ever tracked how long it took your buddy's street to get done versus yours last winter?

Wider streets and city depots make sense, @hugog43, but I bet the REAL reason is that side of the river has way more tax base per square mile, so the city puts the equipment where the money is. Nobody wants to admit that, but it's probably true.
