Just realized I wasted $80 on parking downtown for years

I used to park in that lot on 104 Street near Jasper Ave every time I went to a concert or Oilers game. Paid $20 each time and thought that was normal. Last month a guy at the ticket booth told me about the park and ride at Stadium Station. It costs $5 to park and the train drops you right at the arena. I did the math and I could have saved over $300 in the last year alone. Has anyone else found a cheap parking spot downtown that beats the lots?

Read this article online about how parking lots downtown actually make more money than the stores they're attached to. The guy who wrote it figured out most lots charge a premium just because people don't know about the cheaper options a block or two away. My buddy parks at that lot behind the old Sears building on 102 Avenue, only $10 flat rate after 5pm and it's a short walk to anything on Jasper. Might be worth checking out if you're heading to games regularly, cuts the cost way down without the train hassle.

Huh, I mean maybe, but are people really that clueless about where to park? Seems like anyone who goes downtown more than twice would figure out the cheap spots pretty quick.

Yeah the old Sears lot is solid, I've used that one a bunch. The trick is just walking one extra block, most people won't do it so the lots right on Jasper or 104 Street get away with charging $20-$25. There's also a surface lot on 103 Street just north of Jasper that does $8 flat on weekends if you don't mind gravel. The Stadium park and ride works fine but sometimes after a late game the train schedule gets spotty and you end up waiting 20 minutes in the cold. Honestly if you're only going to games once or twice a month, finding a cheap lot is the better play.
