Honestly thought the Edmonton Chat forum would just be boring city news
Tbh, I checked it out after a friend in Mill Woods mentioned it and found some solid leads on a local plumber who fixed my sink for $120 flat. Anyone else find a good service provider through here?

Gotta be honest, sometimes you get what you pay for with those random forum recommendations. Sure, @shanefisher saved some cash, but a big company has real insurance and guarantees if something goes wrong later. My cousin used a "forum guy" for his furnace and it was a total hack job that failed inspection. The cheap fix ended up costing way more. There's a real peace of mind with a known business that has a storefront to complain to.

Yeah, the forum's actually pretty good for that. Found a guy who does furnace checkups for way less than the big companies. Posted his number in the recommendations thread last winter.

Saw a news story about those big HVAC companies. They charge a ton for simple stuff like filter changes. The local guys usually know the older systems better anyway. My neighbor got quoted over six hundred for a part. The forum guy found it for half that and installed it. Makes you wonder what you're really paying for with the big names.
