Heard a guy at the oil change place say Edmonton's potholes are actually good for your suspension...

I was waiting for my truck's oil change on 99th Street and this older guy told the mechanic that rough roads 'exercise' your shocks and make them last longer. He even said his buddy's car in Calgary with smooth roads needed new struts twice as often. Am I crazy or is that total backwards logic - does beating up your suspension really toughen it up or just wear it out faster?

Ha, that's a new one. I've heard people justify all kinds of stuff to avoid paying for a repair, but saying potholes are good for your truck is a fresh level of denial. That's like saying never changing your oil is good because it builds character in the engine. Roads beat up your suspension because they are literally designed to be flat and smooth, not because car companies are hiding a secret workout plan for your struts. The guy's buddy in Calgary probably needed new struts because they were old, not because the roads were too easy on them. Thinking regular abuse makes metal parts last longer is just coping, plain and simple.

Damn @riverknight, a guy actually argued potholes are good for trucks? That's wild.
