Finally gave in and tried the south side farmers market over the downtown one
Finally gave in and tried the south side farmers market over the downtown one. I've been a downtown market loyalist for like 3 years but my buddy kept pushing the south side one so I gave it a shot last Saturday. The parking alone was worth the switch - found a spot in 5 minutes instead of hunting for 20 near 104 Street. Picked up a flat of strawberries for $12 from a guy near the entrance, way cheaper than the $16 I usually pay downtown. The produce felt a bit more local and less like stuff shipped in from California. I'm still not sold on the vibe though, downtown has better live music usually. Anyone else find one market better for certain things?

Hold up, I'm gonna play hard defense for the downtown market here lmao. The parking argument is valid sure but you're paying for the experience downtown, the music and the crowd energy make it worth the extra 15 minutes of circling. Also I've found the south side strawberries to be hit or miss, last time I grabbed a flat there half of them were moldy by day two. Downtown might be a couple bucks more but the vendors actually let you sample stuff and chat you up without rushing you along. If you want a quick in-and-out grocery run then yeah south side wins, but for a Saturday morning hangout downtown still kills it.

Oh man, @cora562 you're really out here acting like the downtown market is some sacred temple and not just a parking lot with slightly above-average acoustic guitar covers. I get the vibe argument but I'd rather keep that extra $4 for strawberries and listen to a guy playing Wonderwall from his car stereo if I'm being honest. The moldy strawberry thing is fair though, I had one bad batch from a different vendor there last summer and never went back to that guy. Still, if the downtown market wants my loyalty back they can start handing out free parking passes or at least hire a full band instead of one dude with a banjo.
