Tried spray painting an old lamp base and the paint started bubbling 3 days later
I used Rust-Oleum spray paint on a brass floor lamp from the 70s and forgot to prime it first, now there are weird bumps everywhere so what do you use to strip paint off metal without ruining the finish underneath?

Wait are you trying to strip just the new paint to redo it right? Because you mentioned "without ruining the finish underneath" which makes me think you want to keep the original brass or something? That old lamp base was likely lacquered from the factory so there is no finish to save if you strip the rustoleum off, its just gonna be bare brass that needs polishing. If I were you Id just use something like Citristrip gel, let it sit for a few hours, then scrape off all that bubbled paint with a plastic putty knife.

Yeah totally agree with @simoncarr, Citristrip is perfect for this! Just patience and a putty knife does the trick.
