Knocked over a jar of pickled beets and the lid solved my problem

I was cleaning out my garage last Saturday and dropped a jar of pickled beets on the concrete. The glass shattered but the metal lid and rubber seal were totally fine. Has anyone else used old jar lids as coasters or to keep screws organized on a workbench?

Aren't those lids actually pretty durable though? I've been using one as a coaster for months and no sticky rings here. I mean, you just gotta rinse it good first and maybe don't use it for hot drinks.

Wait, aren't those lids usually lined with a plastic coating that can flake off over time? I tried using one as a coaster once and it left a sticky ring on my coffee table. The rubber seal might be good for keeping dust out of screw jars though. Just make sure you wash the pickle juice off first or your screws will smell like vinegar forever.
