Got told my painted jars looked 'too crafty' and it actually helped
I used to take old pasta jars, slap a coat of acrylic paint on them, and call it a day. My sister visited last month and said they looked like a 5 year old made them, which stung but she wasn't wrong lol. So I started sanding the glass first, using chalk paint instead, and adding a simple twine wrap around the neck. Now they actually look like something you'd buy at Target for $12 each. Has anyone else gotten harsh feedback that forced you to up your game?

Nah, sometimes slapdash crafty has its OWN charm.

I get what @rivera.keith is saying about slapdash charm, but I think there's a difference between "charm" and "looks like you didn't care enough to try". Chalk paint and sanding glass makes a real difference in finish and even light hitting the jar. I sand for maybe 2 minutes per jar and the paint sticks way better and doesn't chip off. That's not losing charm, that's actually making the object worth keeping around.
