Watch out for that cheap crock pot liner hack I found on TikTok

Last week I tried that TikTok hack where you use a plastic liner bag in your slow cooker for easy cleanup. Put in a pot roast at 9am, came home at 5pm and the bag had melted into the food. Spent 2 hours picking plastic chunks out of dinner. Has anyone else tried these and had them fail? What do you use instead for cleanup?

TikTok "hack" sounds more like a "how to make plastic soup" tutorial.

@jessel35 might be onto something there. A buddy of mine tried that liner bag trick for a big chili batch and ended up with a weird rubbery taste in the whole pot. We still joke about his "special plastic infused chili" every time we cook together now.

Honestly I tried that same hack and learned the hard way too. Those liner bags are not made for the heat of a slow cooker all day, especially not on high setting. What I do now is just spray the inside of the crock with cooking spray before I put anything in, and it makes cleanup way easier without any melting risk. For tougher stuck-on bits I just fill it with hot water and a drop of dish soap after I empty it and let it soak overnight. That's way less work than pulling plastic out of your dinner, trust me. Tbh I was so mad when I found those chunks in my pot roast, I'm never trying that TikTok crap again.
