Tried dumping raw chicken in the slow cooker and ended up with a mess
I was at my kitchen counter last Tuesday and just threw frozen chicken breasts in there without browning them first. The texture came out awful and the whole thing was watery and bland. Has anyone else found that skipping the sear step ruins the meal every time?

Oh man, I've been exactly where you are and it's the worst. That sad, watery chicken is a total bummer after waiting all day for dinner.

Ugh I totally get that... Actually I was reading this food science article the other day and apparently when you cook chicken on too high heat the proteins squeeze out all the moisture like a sponge. So that watery mess is basically your dinner crying for help. They said to pat the chicken dry first and let it rest like 5 minutes after cooking and it makes a huge difference. I tried it last week with some thighs and they actually stayed juicy instead of swimming in that sad juice.
