Overfilled my slow cooker for 10 years before a chili disaster

Made a big batch of chili last Sunday and it overflowed into the heating element, smoking up the whole kitchen. Turns out you should never fill past the fill line or 3/4 full, who knew?

Man that's rough, nothing ruins a Sunday like chili smoke filling the house.

Wait, isn't the fill line more of a suggestion though? I've been pushing mine past 3/4 for years and never had a problem, but I also use the low setting mostly. Maybe it's the type of chili you're making, @foster.dylan probably keeps his under the line and still ends up with a mess somehow. I do a big batch of beanless chili every month and it's fine, but I bet if you added too much liquid or frozen stuff it'd bubble over easier.
