My neighbor Jeanette told me she never rinses her beans before dumping them in the slow cooker

I was making my usual chili last Saturday and she saw me rinsing black beans and said I was washing away all the flavor and starch that helps thicken the pot... she said her grandma taught her to just dump everything straight in from the can with the liquid and all. Has anyone else skipped the rinsing step on purpose for things like soups or stews in a slow cooker?

a can of beans with meat" is basically what I thought about her chili too, @emeryr38. But I watched her make it on a video and she actually layers in dried chiles and some cocoa powder, which surprised me. I still wouldn't call it traditional chili, but I get why people are into it now.
