Almost ruined a pork shoulder last week with this slow cooker mistake

I put a 5 pound pork shoulder in my slow cooker on low last Tuesday morning before work. Came home 9 hours later and the meat was still tough and barely warm inside. Turns out my lid wasn't seated right because I had a big piece of foil hanging over the edge from a previous meal. Check your lids seal tight before you walk away for the day, has anyone else had this happen?

Oh man, did you cut into it right away or let it rest? I've done that too, left a roast all day and came back to a lukewarm brick. The lid seal is definitely a sneaky problem, especially if you have any foil or food stuck under the rim. I always give mine a little wiggle check now before I leave, just to make sure it's snapped on all the way. It's such a bummer when you plan for an easy dinner and it's still tough after nine hours.

cut into it right away" yeah my buddy Mark did that with a pork shoulder he'd been babying for like 10 hours. He was so hungry he just ripped into it and it was tough as shoe leather. I told him to let it rest at least 20 minutes next time but he never listens lol. Also I bet his lid seal had some dried goo on it from the week before because that crockpot was nasty.
