Found a weird sci-fi novel from 1972 at a church rummage sale

Picked up this beat up paperback called 'The Genocides' by Thomas Disch for 50 cents last weekend. Set in rural Indiana where giant alien plants take over farms. Never heard of it before but it was bleak as hell. Anyone else stumble across old sci-fi that feels way ahead of its time?

Picked up a copy of 'The Genocides' a few years back at a library sale... same condition, beat up and yellowed pages. That book is seriously dark for something written in the 70s, the way it just kills off everyone without any hope. Really stuck with me how the aliens aren't even malicious, they just don't care about us at all.

Man, @jennifer_west you really picked a cheery one there. Nothing like a little existential dread from a library bargain bin to brighten your day. I read that thing and felt like I needed a shower after, not gonna lie. The part where they're just using humans as plant food and nobody even notices the planet is done? Yikes. That 'the aliens are just farmers' twist hits different when you realize we're the weeds they're pulling up.
