That time a random guy at a garage sale saved me from a $60 mistake

I was at a garage sale last Saturday in my neighborhood and saw this old book called 'The Secret Life of Plants' from the 70s with a super trippy cover. A guy in a flannel asked me if I was actually gonna buy it, and I kinda laughed and said yeah, it looked cool. He said he owned a copy and the experiments in it were totally fake, like people tested the claims and nothing held up. I put it down and thanked him, probably saved me $5 lol. Has anyone else had a stranger talk them out of a bad buy at a yard sale or thrift store?

Well, I guess that's one way to save a fiver - having a complete stranger at a garage sale give you the scientific rundown on a 50 year old book about talking to plants. I half expected him to pull out a lab coat and start citing citations right there in the driveway.
